Always Learning, Always Growing

by Libby Boot, MA, CCC-SLP

If you were to ask our therapists what we enjoy most about working at The Center (besides building relationships with amazing kiddos and their families), we would resoundingly point to the myriad of opportunities provided to us for continuing education.

One of my personal favorite continuing education opportunities has been our relationship and mentorship with Speech-Language Pathologist, Sherri Cawn.

From program-specific training like Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing & Verbalizing and Seeing Stars to weekly meetings and book clubs, we continually strive to learn and grow in our fields. One of my personal favorite continuing education opportunities has been our relationship and mentorship with Speech-Language Pathologist, Sherri Cawn.

"I have been fortunate enough to receive a personal mentorship with Sherri…"

Sherri is the Lead Speech-Language Pathologist at Positive Development in the Chicago suburbs. A leading practitioner of DIRFloortime®, Sherri has, for years, provided group mentorship, training, and some personal mentorships with the speech-language pathologists at The Center. I have been fortunate enough to receive a personal mentorship with Sherri, and in our time together, we have worked through case studies to problem-solve and implement strategies based on a developmental model. This mentorship has helped me grow as a clinician as well as better serve my clients using a DIR Floortime® approach.

"…we have also been introduced to a wonderful and resourceful tool: the Profectum Parent Toolbox… a FREE resource created specifically for parents."

Through our relationship with Sherri, we have also been introduced to a wonderful and resourceful tool: the Profectum Parent Toolbox (PPT). The PPT is a FREE resource created specifically for parents. This resource provides videos from the top DIRFloortime® experts (including Sherri herself!) to help parents and professionals identify their children’s strengths and use a developmental approach to engage, play, and communicate with them. We have welcomed this resource as a team of professionals, and we highly recommend parents, families, and caregivers sign up and use this FREE tool!
